Things to Do in Town
Nearby Activities
Looking for things to do around town? If you're extending your stay beyond the Sunday of the wedding, you might want to see a bit of the area before or after the event. Check out some recommendations below.
Restaurants (walk from venue/hotels)
There is a lot of fun stuff to do in very close proximity to the wedding venue and accompanying hotels. Some restaurants we love that are within walking distance include
Brick Store - Nate's personal favorite - good food, and great beer selection.
Sweet Melissa’s - Breakfast food and brunch.
Grindhouse Killer Burgers - Our favorite burger spot in Atlanta, and they have a cool rooftop area.
KBBQ Taco - Korean/Mexican fusion for good prices.
Victory Sandwich Bar - Small sandwiches and drinks. Open late.
Twains - Gastropub that also has billiards, darts, and shuffleboard.
Waffle House - It's Waffle House.
Trackside Tavern - A bit of a longer walk, but still walkable and they serve good food pretty late.
Restaurants (driving distance)
A few great places that are close by, but not in walking distance are
Revolution Doughnuts - Still our favorite doughnuts.
My Parent’s Basement - Comic book themed bar and restaurant AND the site of our first date!
Sun In My Belly - Great brunch spot. A little pricier than Sweet Melissa's.
Fox Bros BBQ - Has been featured on the Food Network. They have chicken fried ribs.
There are also a couple really good breweries in Decatur
3 Taverns - Their Lord Grey Sour is one of the best beers I've ever had.
Wild Heaven Brewing - Try the Emergency Drinking Beer or Eschaton.
More to Explore
If you want to get a little further out and explore Atlanta some, the Georgia Aquarium is one of the best in the country and is right next to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights (Skip the World of Coca Cola though). The NCAA Football Hall of Fame is also in that area if that’s your thing, and a little north of downtown the High Museum of Art and the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) are both really great.
East Atlanta Village has a lot of good bars and restaurants, Little 5 Points is a cool artsy area to hang out during the day, or you can walk the beltline and explore the surrounding areas and check out Ponce City Market, Krog Street Market, or Piedmont Park. Some solid places to eat along or near the beltline include Woody’s Cheesesteaks, The Local (for drinks and wings), and Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall.
If you want to stay out late the night before the wedding, the 1am Secret Show happens every Saturday night at Smith’s Olde Bar and is a stand up comedy showcase. Performers range from not very funny, to Atlanta comedy heavy hitters, to occasional big name comedians stopping by to do a set. It’s also free. There’s also a rooftop bar at Ponce City Market, MJQ is a popular spot to go dancing, and if you’re feeling extra adventurous there’s the Clairmont Lounge.
